Everyone is Welcome to Enter Contests! Flowers and produce MUST be grown by the entrant.
Entry Time: Friday,
August 31, 2012 5 to 8 pm Judging: Friday, August 31, 2012 8 to 10 pm (closed to the public during judging)
Open to the Public: Saturday, September 1, 2012 9 am to 4 pm.
The café will, once again, be serving drinks and sweet ‘nibblies’. Proceeds from
the café and the miscellaneous sales table to benefit the Bancroft Horticultural Society projects. Contact

FLOWER ARRANGEMENTS
*Trophy for Best Arrangement*
1.
Anniversary Arrangement - an arrangement to be used for a special occasion. Your choice of flowers, foliage and container,
to be viewed from all sides. *Trophy awarded*
2. Autumn Winds - an arrangement
using wild flowers and grasses.
3. Sidewalk Café - a small
arrangement using any suitablysized garden flowers, in a coffee mug.
4. Memories of Our Forests - an arrangement using woodland material (eg. - flowers, foliage, roots and branches, moss, fungi, etc.). *Trophy awarded*
5. Autumn Sunshine - an arrangement
of orange, red and yellow flowers, using a vegetable as a container.
6. Rose-in-a-Bowl or Brandy Snifter - 1 rose, fully open, with own foliage, floating in water. *Trophy awarded*
7. Awesome Orchids - your best specimen, in flower (must be owned by entrant for
at least 3 months).
8. Snapping Dragons - something unique using snapdragons.
9. Artistic Stars - an arrangement using the brightest stars of your late summer
garden. *Trophy awarded*
10. Unique Entry - your choice of materials
and design, related to gardening. *Trophy awarded*
11. Dazzling
Dahlias - an arrangement showcasing dahlias.
VEGGIES Please label variety of vegetable, on entry slip, whenever possible.

1. Beans (green)
- 5, uniform in size, with some attached stem 2. Beans (any other colour) - 5, uniform in size, with
some attached stem 3. Beets (round) - 3, 2” to 3” in diameter, washed (not scrubbed),
with tops trimmed to 2”
4. Beets (cylindrical)
- 3, uniform in size, washed (not scrubbed),
with tops trimmed to 2” 5. Broccoli - 1head, with no sign of flowering 6. Cabbage (green) - 1 head, outer leaves may be removed, if
desired 7. Cabbage (red) - 1 head, outer leaves may be removed, if desired 8. Carrots - 5 , uniform in size, tops trimmed to 2”

PRESERVES & PICKLES For each entry, please submit 1 sealer of appropriate size, sealed with a metal
snap lid. Entries will not be judged if opened before entering, or if sealed with wax. Sealers must be labelled, as to contents and date of preserving.

CONTESTS These contests are open to all
age groups, with photos having been taken on either a film camera or a digital. Each photo must be original with
no alterations of any kind. Each entry should be 4” x 6” size and be mounted on 6” x 8” piece
of black paper. The entrant’s name and category should be written on the back of the paper. Only one entry
per person, per category.

KIDS’
CATEGORIES These classes are open to any
children 12 and under, or to those in any school, in the grade specified. Ribbons will be awarded to the winners
of each class.
Junior and Senior Kindergarten:
A hand-printed Alphabet Sampler, of both upper and lower case letters (e.g. Aa, Bb, Cc, etc.)
Grade One: A hand-printed four-line poem
Grade Two: Anatomy of a plant (a plant drawing, with a minimum of 5 labelled parts)
Grade Three: Leaf Collection (a minimum of 6 different types of leaves,
mounted and labelled - can be from plants or trees)
Grade Four:
“Mediaeval Times” (a drawing of something from mediaeval life, with a short written description, beneath
Grade Five: “Open Response” (a written response to the question: Why should communities hold Fall Fairs?)
Grade Six:
Create a poster that could be used to advertize a Fall Fair
Grades
Seven to Twelve: Make a collage with a pioneer theme
Anyone
12 years of age, and under:
1. Best drawing of a farm scene 2. Funniest Animal - made entirely of veggies!
